Downtown Amherst Contra Dancing

Decent turnout, which I guess is more than they've had recently but lots of kind of disappointing things. It's one of the worse locations I've been to for contra, small and even more stuffy because of it. The band wasn't great, at all -- and 2 person bands really have to bring it in contra to generate enough energy. Those things put together make the price feel really high. Contra economics are tough I can imagine, trying to pay real bands. The physical location is great, very accessible with lots of close parking (but you'll have to pay for the first hour). Still, felt over-priced and it kills me to say it about a contra association just trying to keep it going. As usual, the community is mostly good, with the feeling that there are groups that mostly only couple up amongst themselves, which seems to be a contra-wide problem in the area.
